COVER
The front cover of my magazine, in comparison with XXL appears to represent similar ideals. My cover has a stereotypical representation of a rap artist as I represented a young, rebellious male. The pose I set up reinforces the stereotype that rap artists are very rebellious as he has his tongue out and looks aggressive. I also gave him a gold tooth, exactly like the image on XXL which is stereotypically associated with rap music. As my model is male, I represent the male gender in actually quite a negative light even though this is unintentional. Due to the aggressive facial expression, I make young men appear angry and confrontational. The fact that my cover, and the cover of XXL has a close up image, I represent rap fans/young men as being very confrontational and not afraid to stand up to the rest of society. Overall, my front cover shows a stereotypical representation of a rap fan, as shown by the comparison between it and XXL. I did this through technical and symbolic codes mostly, but I also used some written codes thanks to the pull quote that I placed on the cover.
CONTENTS
My contents page represents stereotypical ideals, as can be seen by the side by side comparison above with a real hip-hop magazine. My model is wearing a large black sweatshirt, like the model in The Source contents page, a stereotypical style associated with the rap genre. I use the same model here as the cover but I represented him in a different way as he looks much calmer and mature in this image. When couple with my cover, I give the impression that my young, rebellious target audience are actually multi layered and more thoughtful than my cover gave the impression that they were. The 'Contents' is in a graffiti style which, through technical codes, represents teenagers/young adults as vandals which could be interpreted as a negative representation, however, with the technical code of my models calm facial expression, I think that I am actually representing them as thoughtful and not disrespectful in the way that they express their art. With the social media links on my magazine, I represent a young, tech-savvy generation who always like to stay connected with each other through these means. Both models, on my contents and The Source's one, are young men so I represent the male gender and the young-adult generation.

Gold Tooth in Photoshop
The feedback from my initial front cover design told me to make the cover image look more suited to the hip-hop genre so I decided to make one of the models teeth stand out from the black and white as gold.To do so I looked up a tutorial on how to make objects look gold on YouTube (link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0zGBsq7uF6w) and so learnt how to do it.
1) The first thing I had to do was select the tooth using the quick select tool, pictured left and then create a duplicate of the background layer to turn gold while preserving the original image.
2) Next I went to image> adjustments> hue/saturation then selected colourise, so I could adjust the colour of the tooth, then moved the sliders for hue, saturation and lightness around until I found a balance I was happy with.
5) I then went to filter> render> lens flare and changed the brightness to look like light reflecting off the tooth.
6) Finally, I used the burn tool to give the tooth more texture as a final touch before it was complete.
2) Next I went to image> adjustments> hue/saturation then selected colourise, so I could adjust the colour of the tooth, then moved the sliders for hue, saturation and lightness around until I found a balance I was happy with.
3) The next step was to use the dodge tool and go around the edges of the tooth to give it more shine/make it more realistic.
4) Then I went to filter> render> lighting effects to make the gold have more texture and shine and experimented with the sliders until I was happy with the result.
6) Finally, I used the burn tool to give the tooth more texture as a final touch before it was complete.

Uploading Using Issuu
While trying to upload my Flat Plan I discovered how to upload documents to my blog in a magazine style using Issuu.
1) The first thing I did was convert my Cover, Contents and Double Page Spread Flat Plans into separate PDFs.
2) Next I had to merge the separate files by using a website called smallpdf.com (pictured below)
3) Once I had merged the files into one PDF (pictured above) I could finally then upload the document to issuu.com and create an embed code using their Embed Widget tool. (pictured below)
